Privacy notice

Last updated 14 October 2026

The short version

  • We collect your email address, your practice recordings and the feedback on them, to run the app.
  • Your recordings are private to you, and never used to train AI.
  • OpenAI and Anthropic process them to write your feedback, and keep them for no more than 30 days.
  • Analytics stay off unless you allow them.
  • Delete your account at any time, and your data goes with it.

This summary helps, but the full notice below is what counts.

This policy explains what personal data Learn to Speak Easy collects, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We’ve tried to keep it plain. If anything is unclear, email hello@learntospeakeasy.com.

Who we are

Learn to Speak Easy is a trading name of Norwich Website Design Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17355394), whose registered office is 21 Cranleigh Rise, Norwich, England, NR4 6PQ. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, and we’re registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator, under registration number ZC257776. You can reach us at hello@learntospeakeasy.com.

What we collect

  • Account: your email address and the display name you choose.
  • Practice: the audio recordings you make, their transcripts, the details of each session (the prompt, how long you spoke and when), your streak, your favourites, and the AI feedback on your answers.
  • Profile photo, if you add one.
  • Settings: your time zone (so your day resets at your own midnight), your email preferences, and the type of device you last used.
  • Usage analytics, only if you allow them: which screens and features you use, linked to your account ID but not to your email address.
  • How you found us: when you sign up, the website page or campaign link that brought you to the app, or the name of the site that linked to it (never the full address), or which phone app you signed up in.
  • Notifications, in the phone apps, only if you allow them: a code from your phone that lets us send them, and which kinds you’ve switched on. Signing out stops them on that phone, and deleting your account removes the code.
  • Error reports: technical details when something goes wrong, so we can fix it.
  • Messages you send us: if you use Send us feedback or email us, your message, your email address, your app version and the kind of device, so we can reply. We keep them for up to 12 months.
  • Payments: if you subscribe, Onelink, a Stripe service (on the web), or Apple or Google (in the apps) takes the payment. We never see your card details. We keep a reference to your subscription and its status.
  • On phones, we ask for access to your microphone to record your answers, and to your photos only if you choose a profile photo.

Your recordings

Your recordings are personal to you. They’re stored privately, only your account can play them back or see their transcripts and feedback, and we use them only to give you playback and feedback. We never sell them, we never use them or their transcripts to train AI models, and we don’t use your voice to identify you. We keep them until you delete your account, and deleting your account deletes them. The one exception to “only your account”: if you mark an answer’s feedback “Not useful”, we may read that answer’s transcript and feedback, only to make our feedback better.

AI feedback

To write your feedback, we send your recording to OpenAI, which transcribes it, and the transcript to Anthropic, which writes the feedback. We ask for your permission before your first piece of AI feedback, and you can withdraw it in Settings. Under their API terms, neither company uses this data to train its models, and each keeps it for no more than 30 days for safety monitoring. Your feedback is generated automatically, but it is practice guidance only: it never makes a decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

How we use your data

  • To run the app: giving you prompts, saving your sessions and writing your feedback.
  • To manage your subscription, if you go Pro.
  • To send essential emails, such as sign-in codes and billing notices.
  • To send practice and free week reminders, which you can turn off in Settings.
  • To send our newsletter, only if you asked for it.
  • To keep the app secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • To make our feedback better, using only the answers you mark “Not useful”.
  • To understand how the app is used, only if you allow analytics.
  • To see which pages and links bring people to the app, using how you found us.

Under UK data protection law, we rely on:

  • contract, to run the app and your subscription;
  • legitimate interests, to keep the service secure, fix errors, improve feedback you mark “Not useful”, see which pages and links bring people to the app, and send practice and free week reminders that you can switch off;
  • consent, for analytics, for the newsletter, and for sending your recordings for AI feedback;
  • legal obligation, to keep tax and accounting records.

Who processes your data

We share data only with companies that run parts of the service for us, under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Supabase: our database, file storage and sign-in, on servers in London.
  • OpenAI: transcribes your recordings.
  • Anthropic: writes the feedback on your answers.
  • Resend: sends our emails.
  • Stripe: takes payment on the web. Web subscriptions are sold through Onelink, Stripe’s merchant of record service, which handles the payment, tax and receipts as an independent controller.
  • RevenueCat: manages subscriptions bought in the app stores.
  • Expo: delivers notifications to the phone apps, through Apple and Google.
  • PostHog: product analytics, only if you allow them, on servers in the EU.
  • Sentry: error reports, on servers in the EU.
  • Vercel: hosts the web app.
  • Cloudflare: Turnstile checks that the contact and newsletter forms on our website are filled in by a person, not a bot.

Apple and Google handle purchases made through their app stores as independent controllers, under their own privacy policies.

OpenAI, Anthropic, Resend, Stripe, RevenueCat, Expo, Vercel and Cloudflare are based in the United States. When your data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or on the UK-US Data Bridge where the provider is certified under it.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, recordings, transcripts, feedback and practice history, remove you from our mailing list, and cancel any web subscription. Analytics and error records linked to your account are deleted within 30 days. Deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before it’s overwritten. We keep billing records for as long as tax law requires, currently six years.

Your profile

Your profile is private. Nobody else using the app can see your name, your photo or your practice.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time. You can do most of this yourself in Settings: download your data (on the web), change your email preferences, turn analytics on or off, or delete your account. For anything else, email hello@learntospeakeasy.com and we’ll reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and similar technologies

On the web, we use essential storage to keep you signed in and remember your choices. We use analytics cookies only if you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings. In the apps, analytics are likewise off until you allow them.

Children

The app is not intended for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you by email or in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.

This website

Everything above applies to your account in the app. On learntospeakeasy.com itself:

  • Newsletter: If you sign up, we keep your email address and the date you confirmed, and send the newsletter through Resend. Every email has a link to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
  • Contact form: We keep your name, email address and message so we can reply, and delete them after 12 months.
  • Spam protection: The contact form and the newsletter sign-ups use Cloudflare Turnstile to stop spam. It loads only when you start filling in one of them, and Cloudflare processes that information under its own privacy policy.
  • Visit counts: We count visits to this website without cookies and without identifying you, so we can see which pages help.
